LORRAINE VAN WYK
Born in Cape Town, South Africa Lorraine left in the late 90’s to travel as an international fashion model. She moved back to South Africa in 2015 to focus her attention solely on her creativity and independent style as a South African artist. Self-taught and fine-tuned in multiple disciplines through her involvement in the fashion industry, fine art, museums and culture, Lorraine has managed to carve her own style of portrait photography. With a mind to get into the subject matter that makes up each individual character Lorraine sets her subjects up before painting, styling, lighting and photographing them, aiming to execute the portrait within an hour. Each portrait seems isolated yet with a story to tell. Each with something to say by simply being present in and of itself. Subject matter consists of archetypes, nations, musicians, conservation ethics and nature. With a deep love of music Lorraine has collaborated with many musicians including commissioned album covers. She also does private commissions and live performance events.
